I know there are about 198230123 posts on the internet about how great running is. Search “benefits of running” and you can probably find an overwhelming number of listicles. They talk about clarity, peace of mind, and the AMAZING endorphins you get. But, I’d like to just add one more post to the lot, so I hope y’all will indulge me.

I’ve been so lucky to spend the majority of my winter break in the glorious Florida sunshine. One of the commitments I made to myself before leaving for my vacation was making it to the gym at least every other day, and so far so good!

Tonight, I decided to change it up and do a short run outside as a warm up. As I was running, I looked up and was overcome by the myriad of stars shining brightly above me in the sky.

Back home, there is far too much light pollution and cloud coverage to see the stars very well. There was not a cloud in the sky tonight. I could see the little dipper, the big dipper, Orion’s belt – you name it and you could see it!

Boy was I grateful to have this run on New Year’s Day.

Life is really all about perspective

There are days where it feels like the world is out to get us. The skies are grey, the clouds just won’t seem to go away, and our mood is down. Sometimes, it just feels like the stars don’t and won’t exist in our world. But it all comes down to perspective.

Yes, I had to PHYSICALLY change my location to see the stars, but indulge me in using the stars and clouds as a metaphor. When life is hard, the clouds are out, they block our ability to see the stars. There is often SO much clouding our minds – be it the stress of our jobs, our personal lives, or an existential crisis. BUT, if we realize that the clouds eventually pass, we can look forward to when the stars will shine brightly again.

For me, a run under a starry sky served as a reminder that perspective is often the key to a happier life. Maybe for you it’s painting, singing, or reading a book. Whatever it is, find your way of finding your perspective and hold onto it so that the stars can shine brightly in your life.

Happy New Year everyone! May 2019 fill you with the love, prosperity, and success that you deserve!
